On May 25, 1935, the Deutsche Reichsbahn introduced its innovative streamlined 03 class 4-6-2 Pacific locomotives on express routes from Berlin. Designed by Richard Wagner with aerodynamic casing to reduce air resistance, these engines achieved speeds over 100 mph while hauling heavy passenger trains. The streamlining was both functional and symbolic of Nazi Germany's technological propaganda. Notable for their use on the Berlin-Hamburg line, they featured advanced valve gear and larger fireboxes. This innovation influenced European locomotive design until diesel and electric traction dominated post-war. Several examples survive in museums, highlighting the peak of steam technology in Germany.
