On May 28, 1935, the streamlined SVT 877 Flying Hamburger began regular 100 mph+ service between Berlin and Hamburg. Designed by Franz Kruckenberg, this two-car articulated diesel unit featured advanced aerodynamics and a top speed of 160 km/h, cutting travel time to under three hours. It symbolized Weimar-era technological optimism and influenced later high-speed rail concepts worldwide, including Japan's Shinkansen.
