Scanning QR Codes

QR labels connect a physical model, storage box, or display shelf to its RailScanPro inventory record. When a RailScanPro QR code is recognized, the scanner opens the matching item detail page.

Open the QR Tools

  1. Sign in to RailScanPro.
  2. Open Asset Management.
  3. Select QR Codes, or go directly to /app/asset-management/qr.

From the QR Codes page you can search for one asset, open the list view for bulk work, or open the camera scanner.

Generate a QR Code for One Item

  1. Open /app/asset-management/qr.
  2. Search for the item by name, road name, reporting mark, road number, type, or scale.
  3. Select the item.
  4. Choose Generate QR Code.
  5. Print or save the code from the item QR page.

For more than one item, start from the Asset Management list:

  1. Open /app/asset-management/list.
  2. Select the items that need labels.
  3. Choose the QR or label action from the list toolbar when available.
  4. Review the print preview.
  5. Print the label sheet.

The print label route is /app/asset-management/print/labels. Printed labels can include the QR code plus captions such as reporting mark, road number, and road name.

Scan a QR Code

  1. Open /app/asset-management/scan.
  2. Allow camera access when the browser asks.
  3. Choose the correct camera if your device has more than one.
  4. Select Start.
  5. Point the camera at the QR label until the item opens.

If the scan is successful, RailScanPro opens the item detail page. If the code is not a RailScanPro item code, the scanner reports that the code is unrecognized.

Troubleshooting

  • Make sure the browser has camera permission.
  • Use bright, even light and keep the label flat.
  • Move closer until the QR code fills more of the camera view.
  • Reprint damaged, glossy, or low-contrast labels.
  • Confirm you are signed in to the organization that owns the item.
  • If a QR label opens the wrong item, reprint it from the current item record.

Good Label Locations

  • Bottom of a locomotive or car where it will not show in normal viewing.
  • Storage box lids.
  • Drawer fronts.
  • Display shelf tags.
  • Maintenance trays or repair bins.

Avoid places where the label will be scraped by track, wheelsets, couplers, or foam inserts.
