First CPR Train Arrives in Winnipeg

On May 30, 1879, the first train operated by the Canadian Pacific Railway steamed into Winnipeg, Manitoba, symbolizing a pivotal step in Canada's nation-building efforts. Led by construction manager William Cornelius Van Horne, this arrival followed grueling work across the prairies amid harsh weather and supply challenges. The event connected eastern Canada with the western frontier, boosting settlement, grain transport, and trade.
