Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Reaches Pueblo

The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway arrived in Pueblo, Colorado on May 30, 1876 after overcoming challenging Raton Pass grades. Using 4-4-0 American locomotives, the railroad linked Kansas wheat fields to Colorado mining districts. This connection facilitated coal shipments and passenger service, competing directly with the Denver & Rio Grande. The arrival marked a key step in the AT&SF's westward push toward California and helped establish Pueblo as a major rail hub with extensive yards and repair facilities that operated well into the 20th century.
