German Reichsbahn introduces standardized electric locomotives

On June 1, 1925, the Deutsche Reichsbahn placed the first production E 18 1-D-1 electric locomotives into service on the Berlin–Leipzig main line. Designed by Borsig and AEG, these 2,800 kW machines featured advanced Buchli drives and could reach 165 km/h, setting new standards for express passenger service. Their introduction accelerated the electrification of Germany's core network and influenced locomotive design across Europe for decades. Several E 18s survived into the 21st century, with preserved examples operating on museum lines.
