On June 3 1953 the Odakyu 3000 series SE began limited-express service between Shinjuku and Odawara. With its streamlined nose and 300-series bogies, the train reached 145 km/h, the fastest speed recorded on a narrow-gauge line at the time. The technology later influenced the design of Japan's first Shinkansen trains.
