Inauguration of Japan's Yamanote Line Loop

The Yamanote Line achieved its complete circular route on June 6, 1935, after years of construction challenges including tunneling and bridging Tokyo's dense urban landscape. Operated by Japanese National Railways, it used steam then electric locomotives to serve 29 stations, becoming central to daily commutes and economic growth. This innovation supported Japan's rapid industrialization and later Shinkansen integration, handling over 4 million daily riders today with its efficient 34.5 km loop.
