First train reaches Cheyenne, Wyoming

The arrival of the first Union Pacific train in Cheyenne on June 15, 1873, solidified the city's role as a key rail hub on the transcontinental route. Construction crews had overcome challenging terrain and harsh weather to extend the line from Julesburg. Cheyenne quickly became a major division point with extensive yards and repair shops.
