Liverpool Overhead Railway extension opens

The Liverpool Overhead Railway opened an extension on June 17, 1895, enhancing its innovative electric elevated system along the docks. This was one of the world's first electric elevated railways, using third-rail power and serving port workers efficiently. Engineer Sir William Forwood played a key role. It demonstrated the viability of urban rapid transit, influencing subway designs globally. The line faced corrosion issues from the salty environment but operated until 1956.
