On June 17, 1903, Siemens & Halske operated one of Germany's first electric multiple-unit trains on the Berlin Hochbahn. The three-car set used 600-volt DC third-rail power and could reach 50 km/h, marking a shift from steam to electric traction in cities. This innovation reduced smoke in tunnels and allowed higher frequency service. Key figures included engineer Walter Reichel.
