First electric train service on Liverpool Overhead Railway

On June 20, 1893, the Liverpool Overhead Railway commenced full electric passenger service along its 6-mile elevated line serving the docks. Designed by Sir William Forwood, it used 500-volt DC third-rail power and multiple-unit trains, marking one of the world's first fully electric urban railways. The innovative lightweight cars and automatic signaling improved efficiency and safety in a congested port area. Though demolished in 1956, it influenced later systems like the London Underground extensions and modern light rail.
