CPR reaches Port Moody on the Pacific

On June 27, 1885, the first through train of the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived at Port Moody, British Columbia, completing the eastern portion of Canada's transcontinental railway. Led by William Cornelius Van Horne, the project overcame immense engineering challenges including the Selkirk Mountains and Rogers Pass. This event connected eastern Canada with the Pacific, enabling massive economic growth, immigration, and resource development. The line later extended to Vancouver, and the arrival symbolized national unity just months before the official golden spike ceremony at Craigellachie.
