Tōkaidō Main Line electrification completed

On June 29, 1951, Japan National Railways completed the full electrification of the Tōkaidō Main Line, allowing faster and more efficient service between Tokyo and Osaka. This project replaced steam locomotives with electric multiple units, overcoming post-war material shortages and mountainous terrain challenges. It dramatically reduced travel times and increased capacity for both passengers and freight. The effort laid groundwork for the later Shinkansen high-speed network and showcased Japan's rapid rail modernization, boosting economic recovery and regional connectivity.
