Tsurumi Line opens in Yokohama

The Tsurumi Line, a 7 km freight and passenger route along Tokyo Bay, opened on July 23, 1967. Built to serve the growing industrial zone between Yokohama and Kawasaki, it featured heavy-grade construction and multiple freight yards. Although primarily industrial, passenger service quickly developed, and the line later became an important link in the greater Tokyo commuter network after privatization. Its opening reflected Japan's post-war emphasis on efficient port and factory rail connections.
