On August 9, 1925, one of the most daring train robberies in Indian history unfolded near Kakori, a small town near Lucknow in present-day Uttar Pradesh. The robbery targeted a British government train carrying treasury funds, a symbol of colonial exploitation. As the train slowed near Kakori, a group of ten revolutionaries, armed with pistols and a bold plan, boarded the train.
