Launch of the Orient Express Service

The Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits inaugurated the Orient Express on August 25, 1883, with its first departure from Paris Gare de l'Est bound for Constantinople. Belgian entrepreneur Georges Nagelmackers designed the train featuring opulent sleeping cars, dining facilities, and heating systems that set new standards for long-distance comfort.
