Car Cards and Waybills

Car cards and waybills are the classic paper-based system for routing freight cars. RailCommand can generate them digitally, print them, and connect them to operating sessions.

Four-Cycle Waybill Flow

Each freight car cycles through four routing positions:

  1. Empty car to shipper.
  2. Loaded car to consignee.
  3. Empty car return.
  4. Staging or yard hold for the next session.

Setup Flow

  1. Define industries, staging, yards, car spots, and restrictions in the RailCommand layout tools.
  2. Review the RailCommand roster at /app/railcommand/roster.
  3. Open cargo, car cards, car tracking, car home, and staging yard pages for the selected layout.
  4. Print car cards or display them digitally.
  5. Start an operating session and issue switch lists to crews.
