Starting a RailCommand Operating Session

Last updated: July 3, 2026

An operating session brings together the layout, trains, crews, routes, schedules, hardware, and local runtime state.

Before Starting

Confirm:

  • The correct layout is selected.
  • Hardware state supports the session.
  • Ops Readiness is clear enough for the type of operation.
  • Trains, crews, routes, schedules, and work assignments are ready.
  • Emergency stop is available.

Start Flow

  1. Open the RailCommand desktop app.
  2. Select the layout.
  3. Confirm runtime and hardware health.
  4. Run Ops Readiness.
  5. Choose Start, Resume, or Join.
  6. Assign crews and trains.
  7. Open Engineer Cab, CTC Dispatcher, Yardmaster, or Crew Management for each role.

Web session routes include:

  • /app/railcommand/operating-sessions
  • /app/railcommand/operating-sessions/create
  • /app/railcommand/operating-sessions/{SessionId}
  • /app/railcommand/crew

If Readiness Fails

Use the readiness finding or fix link. Common gaps include missing industries, staging, trains, routes, schedules, hardware mappings, or crew assignments.
