RailCommand Yardmaster and Crew Coordination

Yardmaster and crew workflows connect RailCommand operating sessions with the cars, crews, yards, staging tracks, switchlists, and dispatcher authority needed to run a session smoothly.

Yardmaster Responsibilities

Use Yardmaster and crew workflows to:

  • Review inbound, outbound, and yard work.
  • Assign work to crews.
  • Coordinate car-card, switchlist, cargo, and staging tasks.
  • Keep the dispatcher informed when a yard move affects mainline authority.
  • Resolve changed or incomplete work assignments before crews move cars.

Before Assigning Work

  1. Confirm the correct layout and session are active.
  2. Review Ops Readiness warnings related to cars, crews, staging, and routes.
  3. Confirm the cars and industries in the switchlist exist in the current layout.
  4. Check whether the dispatcher must authorize any route or mainline movement.
  5. Communicate the work to the assigned crew.

During Yard Work

  • Keep one source of truth for each car location.
  • Mark pickups and setouts when they are completed.
  • Tell the dispatcher before a yard move enters controlled track.
  • Stop and reconcile if a car is missing, misrouted, or already assigned to another crew.
